Philip Grözinger
필립 그뢰징어 (1972-)

Born in 1972 in Braunschweig, Germany, Philip Grözinger studied fine arts at the Braunschweig University of Art from 1990 to 1998. He won a Lower Saxony Scholarship in 1998 and taught in the Department of Painting at Berlin-Weissensee Art Academy from 2015 to 2017.

In July 2022, "WHY SO SERIOUS?”, his first solo exhibition in Asia, was held simultaneously at three places: CHOI&CHOI Gallery, HORI Artspace, and AIF Lounge in Seoul, Korea. Galleries in Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Paris, Copenhagen, and the Bamberg Museum of Art also featured several of his works through invitational solo exhibitions. In addition, he participated in major exhibitions curated by the Museum of Contemporary Art Leipzig, the Weiden Museum of Art, and the Abtei Liesborn Museum, among others.

Most recently, Grözinger was introduced in the book Dissonance by the prestigious art publishing company DCV, which features 81 German painters, and he was invited to its commemorative special exhibition at Bethanien Art House in Berlin. His works have been housed in several major art galleries, institutions, and private collections, including the Berlinische Galerie (Museum of Modern Art).

Philip Grözinger currently lives and works in Berlin.

Philip Grözinger’s first solo exhibition in Asia
<WHY SO SERIOUS?>

The German artist Philip Grözinger’s first solo exhibition in Asia entitled "WHY SO SERIOUS?" will be unveiled simultaneously in three different locations in Seoul, Korea. CHOI&CHOI Gallery in Samcheong-dong, and HORI Artspace and AIF Lounge in Cheongdam-dong will present a total of 80 pieces of works, with 40 paintings and works on paper on view in each district. This exhibition marks their second collaborative effort to introduce promising German contemporary artists to Korea, followed by last year's solo exhibition featuring David Lehmann.

The SF genre, while showing the future in distant planetary spaces, always tells us something about our present. This also applies to Grözinger's works and his complexly coded, painterly metaphors for a world that has lost its firm foundation.
